Blue and red sails in Granville
A blue sail and a red one over a Granville forecourt, each carried on tall steel supports at the edge of the bays. The corners are pulled to mismatched heights, and that twist is what keeps the fabric drum-tight and runs water off the low side.
A forecourt design starts with the movements underneath: vehicles coming in, doors opening, people crossing between them. The cover needs the height for a ute to come through and the posts out of the way of the cars, with the entry route left usable.

Can a sail fix to the house, or does it need posts?+
Often both on the same sail. A rafter or a brick wall can carry a corner where there is something solid behind it. Where the house will not take the pull, or the shape wants that corner further out in the yard, it goes on a post with a footing sized for the load.
